You already have one of the better antivirus applications available.
You would probably be better off getting help from their forum:

An alternative to AVG is Avast (www.avast.com). Strangely, with AVG you do
occasionally get the odd update that causes problems, but I have got round
this by downloading the latest version of the AVG application from the AVG
website and re-installing.

You don't say what version you have.
I have 3 versions on 3 diff. computers. 7.x 8.0 and 8.5
No issue with any of them except an update times out now and then.
Seems to be heavy use of their server. Works if you try 20 minutes
later. Also 7.5 is now telling me support ends in April.

Umm... I think that was LAST April.

Couldn't tell you any more, I just upgraded to 8.5 about an hour ago.
I thought so too but I've been getting virus updates on the pc for the
past months. I upgraded all my other PC's but this one. And I just
started getting a warning last week.

I use AVG also. It's the best I've found. I have an occasional update
problem, but it's due to heavy load on their servers. You try again in 10 or
20 mins and it works fine.

It does not affect the way the program works in any way except you don't
have the latest updates.

7.x stopped getting updates last April... or June, one or the other.

No, I have been getting them for 7.5 until last week when I installed v.8.
Apparently they did not stop everyone at once, but gradually.

On my Win98 machine 7.5 gets the updates with no problem. No messages about ending the
updates.

On XP and Vista, that's a different story. You have to change to 8 and above.

Just make sure you really get the free version. I've suggested it to 3
friends lately and only 1 of them got the right thing. I've started
sending the link to them rather than just the name. See my previous email.

Hi, since I have had AVG version 8.0.238
Virus DB: 270.11.31/2027

last update today am

I have had no trouble with updating.
