Microsoft is posting that they will be giving away free versions of
Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 to every attendee at their
launch event. Does anyone know the specifics on the versions they will
be giving out???? Pro, enterprise, gasp.. express...

Here's a link to the site. Not much other information seems to be
availible.

Well, at the W2K3 launch tour, we got 60-day evaluation versions of Windows
2003 Server and Visual Studio .NET 2003. But it this one looks more
generous ...

So it's the real deal then? Visual Studio Professional for Free.
Still seems hard to believe.

Microsoft has been giving away software since Day One. What planet are you
from?
In all likelyhood, it will be Visual Studio Standard Edition and without
question the software will be NFR and is going to be given away to all
attendees of the Launch Event [1]. I'm attending in Chicago [2].

I remember the standard version of VB3. You couldn't even compile with
it.

I wasn't aware of that. I actually have VB 3 NFR but never even loaded it.
Policies do change though. I doubt Microsoft is going to attract thousands
of developers to a launch event and give them crippleware. Now that would be
insane eh?

Clinton, thanks for your input. Sounds like you've been around the
block as much as I have if. Perhaps we should collaborate on some
projects sometime. Give me an email or a reply if you are interested.
