Free 3rd party Firewalls

Hi All,

I am currently using Vista on my notebook, I have AVG installed as my
Antivirus Software.
I am looking for a free firewall that works with Vista. Zone alarm is not
compatible with Vista currently.

Does anyone have any suggestions on any free firewalls that are available
and work with Vista.

Thanks in advance

Have you investigated the improved firewall that comes free with
vista?

I have Frank, its overcomplicated to set up I lost patience faffing

So are there any free third party firewalls

Improved or not, why would you? MS' record with security speaks for itself.
As soon as my preferred firewall (Comodo) is vista 64 compatible, I will be
installing it and disabling the MS firewall.

Oh yeah and furthermore its not "free" it costs $300-00 in the US and
£300-00 + in the UK, for that kind of money I want a firewall that I
can trust not a pain in the arse.

Doesn't the windows firewall leave some ports open ??, I did a shields up
security scan and it said that ports 135 and 139 are open which is
dangerous. This is the report:-

135
RPC
OPEN! (Remote Procedure Call) This impossible-to-close port appears in
most Windows systems. Since many insecure Microsoft services use this port,
it should never be left "open" to the outside world. This port has been
exploited to send "Messenger Spam" pop-ups to Microsoft windows users. Since
it is impossible to close, you will need a personal firewall or NAT router
to block it from external access. Do it soon!

139
Net
BIOS
OPEN! As you probably know by now, the NetBIOS File Sharing port is
one of the largest security holes for networked Windows machines. The payoff
to Malicious hackers from finding open Windows shares is so big that many
scanners have been written just to find open ports like this one. Closing
this port is not difficult and it should be a priority for you!

Also will the windows firewall ask you to allow your computer to connect
out, for example say that I installed a trojan, would it ask me to allow the
tojan to connect out to the internet like say Zonealarm would ??
