fpe sloooooow?

Hi we have a webserver with dual xeon 2.8 ghz processors, running mirrired
scsi drives that has a 300 meg web structure. FPE options like recalculate
web site in FPE admin pages, or refresh website from a client take hours. I
want to enable VSS, I told it internal version control hours ago and its
still running. Welp I needed external which didn't show up, but now I know
why... Anyway, during this time, the web sites to busy to respond to
requests from FPE clients.

What's the deal? this is a beefy server why should a 300 meg site take so
long? Is that normal? If I stop / close the internal version control on
the fpe page will it blow up?

BTW this is FPE 2002 on windows 2000...

Well, it timed out, but taskmanager shows that its still chuging along..

100mbs switched lan

I am running things like recalculate web and version control = built in,
locally via terminal services though. I could kinda understand the remote
refresh taking hours... Not really though. It just seems like a long time.
Even downloading 300 meg from the server shouldn't take more than a few
minutes.
