FP2007 distribution via .IMG file-- Must burn CDROM?

I wish MS would have distributed the official FP2007 retail version as a
standard ISO file. But it is a ".IMG" file. Does anyone know of a way to
mount the ".img" file onto WinXP without having to burn a cdrom?

I've tried using the free "Virtual CDRom" utility, downloaded from the MS
webpage. This allows a standard ISO file to be mounted, but the .img file
is not supported. It won't mount the .img file (msg: "mount failed"). If I
rename the suffix to .iso, the mount again fails with the same error
message.

Well, I'm off to burn a cdrom, which is supported by my cdrom burner. No
big deal I suppose...

Virtual CDRom utility does support IMG files. I suppose it does that undocumentaly since the .IMG type is not listed in the tool's
File open dialog (All Supported Images).

Anyway, just select All Files (*.*) there and browse and select the IMG file and you will be able to mount it with the tool. At
least this is how I did that :)

I can only think of what you did wrong is you probably did not add a drive letter first before mounting the image (this is typically
where you see the "Mount failed" error). Just use "Add Drive" button first and then the "Mount" button.

Hi

I am experiencing the same issue with the newly released MOSS 2007 RTM
..img

I can't find any way to mount the image - has anyone else experienced
this?

Many thanks

jimt,

I know that you fixed it already, but I thought it might help someone else.
You could simply rename the .img to .iso and extract all files into some
folder using e.g. WinAce. It was the easiest way for me anyway :)

Hello "The Rob";

Thnks for the suggestion about WinAce, I never heard of it before.

BTW I had tried renaming the file when using VirtualDrive. From my original
post:

Just to be clear, the rename was not required for VirtualDrive. The trick
was to add another step... FIRST I need to add a drive, THEN I could attempt
to mount the .IMG file. I was missing the first step of adding a drive.
Thanks again to KM for this suggestion.
