FP2003 vs. FP2000

I have a website built using FP2000. The webmaster of another related
website has suggested that I upgrade to FP2003. I'm always nervous making a
big change to a development tool, especially since I am a neophyte webmaster
and will probably never do anything other than my simple little website. Do
I need to upgrade to 2003? What advantages does it provide me? Is support
for FP2000 going to go away anytime soon? I appreciate any and all input.

Thanks

Hi Cathy,

I would wait until the next version of FP (Expression Web Designer) is about ready to hit the streets then purchase FP2003. By do so
you'll be able to get a free upgrade to next version. MS has said that the next version is due in the second half of 2006.

Thanks Mike - that's helpful information. Some of the posts I've read on
this discussion site mention problems getting used to 2003, and the fact
that it doesn't seem to be as user friendly. Are those unfounded fears,
given that I'm a neophyte?

I believe they are unfounded. FP 2003 is more advanced and some things where moved around in the menu a little but for the most part
it is FP.

I've found it to be an easy transition..Ive been using FP since forever.

I particularly like the Split View (code & design)...I would think this
would be an excellent learning tool for noobies.

I upgraded from FP2000 to FP2003 last summer and have been very pleased with
it. FP2003 is a lot more user friendly than FP2000 but the help system is
not very good. A manual doesn't come with FP2003 so plan on buying an
FP2003 book too.

1. Does anyone know what MS is doing with Expression Web Designer vs Visual
Web Developer and Developer Express? Which should be used when?
2. I use Office2000 Pro. If I install FP2003 does it replace FP2000 or
install seperately?

1. They are in beta testing.
Expression web designer will be the replacement for FrontPage for the
average web designer.

2. You can do it either way. you can keep 2000 and install 2003 or you can
have 2003 replace 2000.
It's an option during the install process if you select Custom install.
