FP2003 upgrade problem

G

Upgrading from FP2002 to FP2003 problem.

1. I started creating a website with FP2002. This website is still under
construction, but has been published. www.habcraft.co.uk

2. Recently I switched from using FP2002 to FP2003. FP2002 is no longer
available to me (laptop stolen).

3. I now have problems making changes to this website. When I open the
website in FP2003 / design view to edit I notice that there are fundamental
changes to its appearance. The background colour is lost on the body, I can
no longer see my header border with my banner and background colour and
navigation buttons, my side borders no longer display the navigation buttons
and background colours. The content in the body is OK – pictures, text,
tables are as expected.

Instead of my header and borders I see text as follows

Header border
â€(Add this page to the navigation structure to display a page banner here)â€
& “(add this page to the navigation view to display hyper links here)â€

Left border
â€(add this page to the navigation view to display hyper links here)â€

Right border
“Comment: this border appears in all pages in your website. Replace this
comment with your own content.â€

That’s the bad news

The good news is
When I preview the same page in browser view using FP2003 everything appears
normal – the background colour reappears, the borders reappear in the right
colour with the navigation buttons, it looks just the way I expect it to.

However… the page only looks OK in browser view providing I have not
undertaken any changes to the page, if I make a single change and then save
that change when I preview in browser everything abandons ship, the back
ground colour, the text type, the borders, the navigation buttons, the
banner. Put simply everything is lost and further I have not figured out a
way of correcting my situation. My only option is to reload my original
website (which I have on backup disk) onto my new laptop. This brings me back
to my original position. Ergo Website is correct but I have a problem in that
continuing its development using FP2003 is beyond my reach

Can you offer me any advice in how I should tackle this problem.

Thank you for taking a look at my question

Does the live/remote site have the FP extensions, if not then you will have to reapply any themes,
shared borders, rebuild you navigation structure, etc.

Do you mean the server that I used to publish the site. If your answer is yes
to this question then I does have FP extensions. If your answer is no then I
dont have any information from which to make an answer. I used FP2002 wizard
to build the site, I have zero programing knowledge. Are you able to tell me
what has gone wrong for me, did I do something wrong at some point when
building my first site?

Thanks for taking a look at my reply.

If you can open the live site in FP using
File Open site and entering http://www.habcraft.co.uk/ (and logging in)
Publish your site (all pages) to your PC
See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010782961033.aspx

Hello stefan
Thanks for taking an interest in my problem. I have published the remote
site onto my laptop but I still have the same problem. I can see all the
pages and folders in folder view but when I go to check out the navigation
view or hyperlink view there is nothing there and it asks me to create a new
page.

I am assumin that the remote site I published back onto my laptop found its
way to the folder my webs and I am looking at all the pages I published onto
my laptop. could it be possible my laptop has stored my remote site somewhere
else. for your info. In "my Webs folder" the website is stored under folder
name TTE but in my "Network Places folder" it has created a folder called
WWW.habcraft.co.uk - is this an issue?

Thanks again for offering me your help

Reopen your online site in FP and in Remote Web Site View look at the location you published to
- there is also an option there to Open Remote site which will open the correct PC site location

The new network place should allow you to open your remote site by just using in FP File Open site and browsing to the my network
places (and double clicking the new WWW.habcraft.co.uk location)

Not making any progress. This what I have done.
1. Opened my documents and cleared out "My Web folder" - Folder still exists
but nothing is in it.
2. Opened FP 2003 and opened site. http://www.habcraft.co.uk.
3. Published site - checked the box "remote site to local site" - I assume
remote site is on the server and local site is on my laptop
4. Remote site has this desination http://habcraft.co.uk and local site has
this designation http://www.habcraft.co.uk
5. The remote site was in the right hand window and local site in the left
hand window. Arrows pointed from right to left (from remote site to local
site) adjacent to files.
6. Strangley however a text appeared at the bottom stating "publishing from
http://www.habcraft.co.uk to http:habcraft.co.uk which is in direct
contradiction of the check box I i ticked asking the remote site to publish
to the local site.
7. After the process was completed i went to look in "My Web site folder "
and found zero / nothing .
8. I still have my website on hard disk from my last back up on the laptop I
had stolen which was using FP2002.

I am at a loss to understand what is happening -

Thanks again for taking an interest in my predicament

3. Published site - checked the box "remote site to local site" - I

No
The local site is always the first site you open, the Remote site is
the other site (on the right in Remote Site View.) In this case, the
local site is http://www.habcraft.co.uk (since you opened it in
FrontPage) and the remote site is on your laptop, and should have a
file destination similar to
c:\documents and settings\username\my documents\my webs\webname, or
wherever you have located "My Web Folder"
You should check Local to Remote when publishing.

What has happened? You have published your live (server) site to
itself.

publish
to the local site.
7. After the process was completed i went to look in "My Web site
folder "
and found zero / nothing .
8. I still have my website on hard disk from my last back up on the
laptop I
had stolen which was using FP2002.

I am at a loss to understand what is happening -

Thanks again for taking an interest in my predicament

Reopen your online site in FP and in Remote Web Site View look at
the location you published to
- there is also an option there to Open Remote site which will
open the correct PC site location

The new network place should allow you to open your remote site by
just using in FP File Open site and browsing to the my network
places (and double clicking the new WWW.habcraft.co.uk location)

Ok - thanks for replying. I have now been able to fix this. Appreciate your
attention.

3. Published site - checked the box "remote site to local site" - I
assume
remote site is on the server and local site is on my laptop

No
The local site is always the first site you open, the Remote site is
the other site (on the right in Remote Site View.) In this case, the
local site is http://www.habcraft.co.uk (since you opened it in
FrontPage) and the remote site is on your laptop, and should have a
file destination similar to
c:\documents and settings\username\my documents\my webs\webname, or
wherever you have located "My Web Folder"
You should check Local to Remote when publishing.

What has happened? You have published your live (server) site to
itself.

Not making any progress. This what I have done.
1. Opened my documents and cleared out "My Web folder" - Folder
still exists
but nothing is in it.
2. Opened FP 2003 and opened site. http://www.habcraft.co.uk.
3. Published site - checked the box "remote site to local site" - I
assume
remote site is on the server and local site is on my laptop
4. Remote site has this desination http://habcraft.co.uk and local
site has
this designation http://www.habcraft.co.uk
5. The remote site was in the right hand window and local site in
the left
hand window. Arrows pointed from right to left (from remote site to
local
site) adjacent to files.
6. Strangley however a text appeared at the bottom stating
"publishing from
http://www.habcraft.co.uk to http:habcraft.co.uk which is in direct
contradiction of the check box I i ticked asking the remote site to
publish
to the local site.
7. After the process was completed i went to look in "My Web site
folder "
and found zero / nothing .
8. I still have my website on hard disk from my last back up on the

I am at a loss to understand what is happening -

Thanks again for taking an interest in my predicament
