I am converting my FP2003 Web sites from a W2k Server to a FP2003 XP server.

My process was this..
1. Burn the W2k inetpub folder onto a CD
2. Copy the folder from the CD to the inetpub location on the XP system
3. Create a Virtual Directory in IIS that points to this folder.

The problem I am finding in the XP environment is that the FP2003 links on
pages will not run. I check the links, it says they are there, but when I go
into Preview mode they will not run!!

HELP!! What have I done wrong?

What is a FP2003 XP Server, there is no XP OS / Server

You need to publish the site from one location to another, you can not just copy the complete
inetpub folder between machine or Operating Systems.

Hi, Ray,

Can you clarify what you are doing, please? Since there is no FP2003 XP
server, do you mean Windows 2003 Server? Or Windows XP Professional? Or do
you mean FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions? Clarifying this will help us
find a correct solution.

If you have a Win2003 Server system, do you have the FrontPage 2002 Server
Extensions installed? If you do, you can use the publish feature in
FrontPage 2003 to republish the site to the new server. Alternatively, you
could FTP from within FrontPage. Again, alternatively, you can copy the
site to a CD, and then onto the new server (as you are already doing).

Also, pages don't always link properly when you use Preview mode in
FrontPage. This is a known problem and the work around is to view the pages
in a browser. When you view your pages in a browser, do the links work
properly?

PS
and if restoring from a CD always remove all Read Only attributes from all files / folders

Sorry for the confusion about my configuration. Here it is again;

OLD: Windows 2000 Server & FP2003
NEW: Windows XP Professional & FP2003

I have copied the web site folders to a CD from the OLD environment and then
in the new environment created the folder in Interpub/wwwroot and created
the virtual directory to support it.

I am having to problems now.

1. In FrontPage I can not do an OPEN SITE by supplying the URL for the local
machine (but I can open the site locally from IE). I have to open the site
by accessing the file path to Interpub/wwwroot.

2. When I open pages in the NEW environment with Frontpage, many of the
links will not execute in PREVIEW. How do I get them to work in preview? I
never had this problem with FR2003 in the W2k environment.

Please help ASAP! I have two large websites that I am trying to get
convereted....

That will not work. Copy to a folder on your HD and remove readonly
attributes. Then open it as a diskbased web and Publish it to the
Server.

Some links will not work in Preview. Preview in a browser instead if you
need to test the links.

Thanks.....

I did find that I had to remove the "read only" file protection.

If I "Open Site" and path to the Interpub/wwwroot location it will open in
FP2003. And I found the Microsoft fix for the FP2003 Preview Problem.

Thanks.
