G'day to all.

PROBLEM:
1) Search Page always returns 'No Documents Found'

ERRATA:
1) FP 2002 Extenstions are installed,
2) Indexing Service Running,
3) Created necessary Catalogs and am indexing the Specific Directories that
I want included,
4) Latest and Greatest Fixes, Patches etc installed,
5) I even checked NTFS perms - all is well,
6) Using MMC with Index Snapin, I can query the site and get results
returned to me. I used the MMC on the server, not my laptop. However, I get
the same succesfful results on my notebook when I query the Catalog.

I've looked over the articles in several newsgroups and according to
everything that I could find - all should be well. Also, I've search the KB
and again, everything should be all good.

When I teach MS MOC courses, all works well.

What have I missed and or what have I NOT done?

TX in advance,

Richard

Have you open the live site in FP and run Tools | Recalculated Hyperlinks?

Yup. Sorry, should have put that in my original post.

Just going over eveything one more time. It's got to be something dumb that
I've missed.

Richard

You might consider removing and recreating the search on the live site.

Thanks Steve. I did exactly what you suggested, and even created a seperate
folder to hold Catalogs in.

I 'Very' carefully created new Catalogs, pointed Index Server to where I
want them stored. I then restarted Index Server, queried the Catalog from
the MMC. All was well.

THinking that I had this bad boy licked, I joyously stopped over to me
laptop, ran a Search on the Site and now I get a 'There is no Catalog'
error.

I also ran a this query: @unfiltered=tru. It retuend 'No matches'.

I've checked the following for information and followed each and every step
'Exactly. To be honest, I'm really getting quite annoyed.

You should consider posting to the Index Server newsgroup for help with this.

That happens to me on occaison.

What I do is:

1. On my local web I delete all the *.btr files in the _vti_pvt folder
2. Then I rename or move a file or two with links either to or from
them to force the index off.
3. Then I recalculate hyperlinks.
4. Publish changed web to remote server.
5. Close local web
6. Open remote web
7. Recalculate hyperlinks

That usually fixes the problem.

If you are using IIS6, in the IIS MMC, go to Web Service Extensions and
make sure that Indexing Service shows and is "Allowed". If it does not
show, re-install indexing service.
Also check that, under web-site properties -> Home Page, that Index this
Resource is ticked.

Thanks Brian, I just tried that and no go. I mean this is just rude! I've
even built a 'Brand New' server in my lab, went through my MOC material and
build the new one exactly the same and it works fine.

I ripped it down, rebuild as a 'Test Production Server', followed exactly
the same procs that I have for 8 other servers that I've build for clients.

Oh yeah, it's a completely different physical machine - who knows. I even
gave 'Gulp' Everyone FC (remember 'Testing').

Still no go.

Yup - bin there, done that. Ron, this is just wierd. The cat shows up fine.
I can query the cat in the MMC just fine.

I'm at the point where I'm doing netscans and capturing everything across
the wire ( don't expect this to be fruitful, but what the hey), and turned
Auditing on to see if it's a perms thing.

Richard

WOW - this is now working. Honestly, we did nothing else. We were about to
tear down the server and I thought I'd check the logs and site search one
last time.

Now the only wierd things is that the Navbar (Linkbar) is missing. I suspect
this may have something to do with the 'recalc' of the site?

Anyway, I want to thank all you folks for all the assistance.

Richard
ps: I'd like to know (if anyone does) why this works all of a sudden. It has
always been my belief that Idex Server is instantaneous.
