FP forms on GoDaddy's Servers

at www.cannonbeach.org the 'Contact Us' Page has a form.

The site is published and created w/FP 2003 (except for the obvious flash
menu buttons) and hosted on GoDaddy's 'Deluxe' Hosting Plan here -
https://www.securepaynet.net/gdshop/jump_pages/host_compare.asp?se=+&prog_id=262294

In order to successfully send the CannonBeach.org's FP 2003 form results via
email, GoDaddy's 'advanced' support suggested deleting the FP 2003 default
'Send To' filename (_Private\wherever). The form then works but, only
emails the results. The form crashes on GoDaddy's 'Deluxe' hosting plan when
the FP 2003 default 'Send To' filename is used.

The GoDaddy 'Deluxe' plan has ASP & PHP enabled for the Flash buttons on the
above site.

My question is this; Why will the FP 2003 form not work when the Default FP
form's 'Send To' filename is enabled?

Is this some kind of "Windows Hosting w/PHP/FP extensions enabled"
incompatibility?

Any help would be hugely appreciated. This is a bit of a time-gobbler with
everyone passing the buck - if you know what I mean.....

Or, maybe I'm in the wrong forum here?

Thanks.

Make sure the file used to receive the form info in the _private folder has
"server write" permissions applied.

Shouldn't/Doesn't FP do that by default on Setup?

How on earth do I see/change/edit permissions on that Remote file Steve? Do
I ask the Host's Tech Support or use Ipswich's FTP client or ????

I can't find nuthin in FP that'll show me those permissions on the
_private\results.csv file or anywhere that'll allow me to do that...

thanks.

For properly configured hosted sites w/ the FP SE,
yes the permissions on _private are set and managed by the FP SE
- however a host misconfiguration of the server or FP SE (known to occur w/ your host), or any use of FTP can corrupt those
permissions or the FP SE

The fact they told you not to use the _private folder indicates to me it is a problem on their side in their server/site/SE setup

I can't even see the _private folder in Ipswich FTP client or the Host's
minimal FTP client!!! FP seems the only place to see the _private folder...

What if I get FP to 'Send To' a different location?
\notsoprivate\newresultsfile.txt ?

as a side note...if you use FTP you're gonna break FP extensions.

You can't write to a file in a folder w/o write permissions

yeah, I was just thinking of using it - Ipswich ftp cli. - to only change
the file permissions - learned not to publish to FP site with ftp client the
hard way ....

thanks for the reminder... always good to know :}

Go Daddy will have to change permissions on the _private folder.

OK. I've heard this before too.

I'm getting really tired of ignorami level1 support at GoDaddy always
blaming some error or another on FrontPage. I'm going to get in touch with
Bob Parsons - GoDaddy Principal - about this and, maybe hopefully get some
sense and resolution to this...

Thanks again Stefan.

So on the strength of Stefan's comment I just blasted off an email to Bob
Parsons - (e-mail address removed)

I personally am tired of dealing with GD tech support's unwillingness to
come to grips with this issue and constantly blaming FrontPage for this,
that or the other.

I'll let y'all know what the resolution is.. :}

Thanks Stefan for the feedback.

I have been to their site and can find "NO" mention of supporting FrontPage
Extensions.. (Odd)
But they do say they have Windows servers... (That doesn't mean the
extensions are installed though)

Good luck Michael and please let us know what you find.

The amusing part is that I can use their lo-cost 4.95 per month servers w/FP
SE and all works fine! go figger.
