FP 2002 BUG - Setting a background image JPG

M

Mark Abrams

In Frontpage 2002 I reference a jpg as my background image. When I publish
the HTML contains the following:

background="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Mark/My%20Documents/My%20W
ebs/Huckinsfarm/images/Backgrounds/laybkgnd5.jpg">

Not the reference isn not dynamically linking back to the web buit to my C:
drive. Only my client PC see the file and I have the desired background
while my published web does not have a background file.

COMMENTS:

TIA

With your web open, you need to File | Import the image into the images
folder in your web before inserting on you page.

Not a bug! Import images into the current open FP web prior to using them in
the web.

I have also had an occasional problem with a link pointing back to my hard
drive instead of to a location on the website. One thing you can do is to
open the page again on your computer in FP and reestablish the link, in this
case, reset your background image on the page, then save the page. If the
problem persists, then you may have to edit the HTML.

This can also happen in FP if you copy a link and then paste it to a page in
a folder on a different level, for example, if you copy the link from
myweb/trees/index.html and paste it onto myweb/flowers/rose/index.html.

The image file resides in the current web
Huckinsfarm/images/Backgrounds/laybkgnd5.jpg

The file is associated with the home page via the page properties:
Background image. the result in the HTML are:
background="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Mark/My%20Documents/My%20W
ebs/Huckinsfarm/images/Backgrounds/laybkgnd5.jpg">

Changing images within frontpage to another image results ina a similar
problem.

Do you have a web open (File Menu | Open Web) when you link to the
background image?

Even though the default is to put disc based webs in the folder
C:/Documents and Settings/<USER>/My Documents/My Webs/
That often causes FP to create file based links (and add the %20 for spaces)

Open your web and use File Publish to a new top level folder (say C:\wwwHuckinsfarm)
Then file open web and browser to C:\wwwHuckinsfarm, then run a Tools recalculate hyperlinks and check all you image links (View
reports Problems)
FP should keep your links relative to the root from now on

PS you can reopen your old site and select the root to delete the site once your new one is OK

Every time I put a picture from my HDD in a web page, when I save the page I get ap op up asking
where FP shoudl import the picture to automatically. Never had a problem. But can try deleting the
picture file from in the web, then going to Windows Explorer and copying it it, then go into your
web in FP and paste it into the folder you want it in. Then turn off the background image and turn
it back on referencing the image in the web folder.

You can avoid those prompt by always importing the images into your current
open FP web prior to using the images within your web.
