FP 2002 - BOOKMARK PROBLEM

G

Guest

In FP2002 I have following Bookmark problems
1) If I bookmark an image no flag icon appears but Bookmark listed
2) However, when I try to link from text on another page on website to Bookmarked image, get message that there are no Bookmarks on page selected

Don't believe this ever happened before.

Did Save and do find tiny flag icon -- didn't see before

HOWEVER, Bookmark does not still "work" -- can't link to it from other pages.

Do you have the web open (File Menu | Open Web / Site when working on your web content?

Yes, this the work flow for attempted procedure
1) File>Open Web>page/URL select
2) Insert>Bookmark>Name>Save : no proble
3) Highlight text section on another page/URL>hyperlink select>target page/URL highlight>Bookmarks selec
Error message: "There are no bookmarks in this document."

Try bookmarking to some text on the same page and see if it works.
I've never bookmarked to an image before. ( Not saying it can't be done, I've just never
done it )

Sorry: CAN link on the same page to a Bookmarked image from a highlighted text section
CANNOT link to Bookmark from another page/URL

1. You have a web open first
2. You then open your page for the bookmark
3. You then create your bookmark, save the page, but do not close it
4. Next you open the page you want to create the link to the bookmark
5. Create your text or select your text or image, right click, select hyperlink
6. In the hyperlink dialog, browse to the page with the bookmark.
7. In the bookmark drop down, select the bookmark

or

just type it in manually:

pagename.htm#bookmarkname

With the web open, click Tools, Page options and then the compatibility tab and set the
drop downs to Custom and then try.

Thomas,
I just tried bookmarking to an image in both 2002 and 2003. When you highlight the image
and then select Insert Bookmark, there is no name in the "Bookmark name" box where you
click yes to use the text you have selected.
I'm thinking it can't be done to an image from another page, only the same page.

Steve,

In FP2002, after you have added the bookmark to the image, you have to switch to HTML View and make
sure the <a name=""> is on the same line as the image tag.

When you first create the bookmark, this is how it looks in HTML View:

<p><a name="cat">
<img border="0" src="cat.jpg" width="180" height="200"></a></p>

This has to be changed to (all on one line):

<p><a name="cat"><img border="0" src="cat.jpg" width="180" height="200"></a></p>

Then it appears in the bookmark dialog.

Now under FP2003, it appears to work correctly, the same as in FP2000, where the bookmark is create
like:

<p><a name="cat"><img border="0" src="cat.jpg" width="180" height="200"></a></p>

Yep, that's the ticket, you have to give the bookmark a name manually because you haven't
selected any text. Works like a dream.

Thanks Thomas.

Steve, you can select the image and assign a bookmark name, then you just have to switch to HTML
view to make sure is on the same line as the image tag. I just left out the name in the first part
of my example.

True, but you have to go to HTML view if you are applying the bookmark to an image, and make sure
the bookmark is on the same line as the image tag.

I just went to one of my sites, added an image, selected it, made a bookmark, named it and saved
Then entered text on another page, selected it, selected hyperlink, selected the page, selected bookmark, and there it was, selected it, saved again, published, and worked perfectomondo. The page does not need to be open to select a bookmark

Try doing it on a new page (after you have saved it first)

I can't see how that would make a difference
After you save a new page it's no longer a new page
But I will try it anyway.
OK, just tested it and it works fine without going into HTML view
New page with bookmarked image. New page with text hyperlink to bookmarked image
Worked like a swiss clock! Cooco
Not being factious
