I'm looking into problems with a friend's laptop and while I have gotten to
the bottom of most of the issues, I have one lingering problem.

Every time the computer loads Windows XP, it finds new hardware and states
"Found New Hardware; Printer". Then, it attempts to install software for
the "Printer" and when it cannot locate software for the printer, it prompts
me to locate the software.

As you might have guessed by now, there is no printer. There is nothing
attached to this computer at all except for a power cord and as of this
afternoon, an ethernet cable. I don't even have a mouse attached and I
gotta tell ya, that damn stick is driving me crazy. But I digress ...

Can anyone help me get this thing to stop trying to install software for a
printer that doesn't exist? I would really appreciate it.

Thanks.

is adobe acrobat pro / distiller present on the machine? Acrobat files can
be written through a virtual printer that adobe installs. If this software
is pesent, try unstalling and reinstalling it with an updated version.
