How do I stop "found new hardware" box from from coming up on re-boot? It
takes 3 or 4 clicks to get it to stay off. Thanks

The "best" way is to finish installing the drivers for the device.

Example: When I installed a multi-function printer on my brothers computer,
and rebooted as instructed, upon the next entry into Windows the box popped
up. I allowed the system to search for the drivers. The drivers were found,
and installed. I was instructed to reboot. Entering Windows yet again the
box popped up. I allowed the system to search for the drivers. I was told to
reboot.

This went on for 5 reboots until "everything" was installed for each module
that was part of the printer.

If I had not done this, the only function that would have worked on his
printer would have been the printer function. He would not have had his
scanner, copier, fax etc.

Hi Richard, thanks for your input.

I have gone through that process probably 20 times. It will say "install on
its own or insert a disk". I have tried both over and over. At first my
printer worked fine in spite of the box but now my printer nor my scanner
does not work. Anything else I might try?

Thanks a bunch

Look in Device Manager and look for the yellow icon with the
question mark. This would provide the first clue as to the type
or name of the device that needs a driver. There might also be
an unique product ID number or name for this piece of hardware.
This may be good enough of a hint to determine what driver files
might still need to be installed.

Additional information, but in a coded form, might be found in
the various tabs of the properties box, such as the ID number for
a plug-n-play driver that is triggering the "New Hardware Found"
box. This would be the PCI/VEN number.

Finally, when did this message box first started appearing? Is
this a new installation of Windows XP? Or a clean re-install?
Or right after new hardware was added? Through I'd ask, anyway.
