Found new hardware message when driver already installed

Startup with my scanner (scsi) switched on results in many messages saying that 'new hardware has been found' etc.
despite the fact that the scanner driver and software and software are already installed and the thing works happily if
I ignore and close all these messages.. It's a bit annoying and now a friend tells me he has a similar problem with a
printer which must be worse as my scanner is not used (or switched on) most of the time..
Any suggestions.. A recent full re-install of XP has not resolved this.

Have you tried leaving the scanner "ON" all the time? Sounds like each time
you turn it on the system (PNP) thinks it s a new piece of hardware you are
adding. I get the samething when I plug in my USB Card Reader for my camera.
But the system knows what it is by the driver signature and auto loads the
device. Hope this helps!!!

Hmm!
I've always assumed it was because I have an old scanner pre-XP.. I don't use it enough to worry about the problem but
my friends printer is more irritating..
