A post born of naive altruism...
Finally exhausted by Windows Explorer's shortcomings and disappointed to the
point of bafflement by the lack of interest in addressing UI issues in SP1 I
went in search of some workarounds and found QT TabBar (with which I have no
affiliation whatsoever. See http://qttabbar.wikidot.com/qttabbar)
I've been using it for a while now and particularly appreciate the "New
Item" button that allows me to create folders with a click and the tabbed
approach to folder browsing (with the ability to define sets of folders/tabs
for quick access)
I've not noticed any problems since I installed it on my Vista HP system
(fully updated) and neither AVG antivirus or AVG antispyware (or Windows
Defender) have complained...
The author ("Quizo") is to be complimented on a very useful utility... if
you choose to try it I hope you get as much mileage from it as I have.
