[FOT] a website / search engine we tend to forget about but better than google?

easier to search for freeware:

http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Freeware/

main page:

http://www.dmoz.org

also of interest:

http://www.kidsclick.org/ (only 3 freeware sites listed though, would
like to see more kids related websites)

IMHO a search engine (like dmoz) that is maintained by humans rather
than bots (like google) is much better at producing real results.
DMOZ is laid out kind of strange: For example I looked in Computers /
Software / Freeware / Data Compression for 7-zip, but did not find it.
Then I looked in Computers / Software / Open Source, but their was no
entry for Data Compression.

Did a search of Computers / Software and found 7-Zip in:
- Computers: Software: Backup
- Computers: Software: Data Compression

In both categories 7-Zip was not in Alphabetized order.

I'm not so sure you could reliably find freeware or open source programs
on DMOZ.

they are kinda picky about who they admit in their clique (the 7-Zip
authors may have submitted their site in both Back up and Data
Compression) but its the human quality that makes it interesting.

With that in mind I would think that the folks at http://dmoz.org/ would
organize their site in such a manner that other humans could easily
navigate their website in order to locate the information they are
seeking.
