Forwarding with Full Envelope Headers

J

Joe Mills

Hi,

I'm having problems trying to forward a message which includes the full
envelope headers i.e. including the mail server ip addresses etc. I'm using
Outlook 2003 (SP2) and have tried using the Tools > Options > Email options
When forwarding a message - Attach original message and also tried
forwarding by selecting 2 messages clicking forward and then removing the
one I don't want to send. In both instances they are forwarded as
attachments but the only headers I see for the when I open the attachment
(of the received message) and go to View > Options are the Mail From and To
etc (no ip addresses). Does anyone know a way of forwarding emails and
including Full Envelope Headers?

Thanks.

That still didn't give me the mail server ip addresses when viewing the
'Internet Headers' of the attachment. Try it....

Further to that, when I look at the attachment in my sent items it does
actually show the full headers but when the message is delivered and I view
the headers they have been stripped!

Yes - I can see all the ip address details for any email that is sent to me

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

I just consulted with a fellow MVP and he informs me that the message header information you are looking for will be stripped if sent outside the same exchange or email organization (I am using Exchange 2003 here at home).

The cure for this is to zip the attachment and the server will ignore the header information. Both Exchange and Imail servers will strip the information. I presume other mail servers behave the same.
