forwarding old addresses to new

We cancelled our old email addresses and are wondering if any incoming email
to those OLD addresses can be automatically forwarded to our new ones?
 
Do you control the mail server? If so, it may be possible for your admin to
setup redirection.
 
who was the email provider for the old addresses? That is usually something
you have to set up, otherwise how does the email know what your new address
is?
