Forwarder or Root Hints

E

Eddiie

Hello All...

We are configuring a new W2k DNS server to our NT4 Domain; put the
Intranet DNS on Root Hints and Internet DNS on Forwarders, but only
resolve the Internet names. The intranet is reached only when the
Forwarders are empty.
We tried the Intranet DNS on forwarders and didn´t work.

Do I need to create something more?!

Thanks at all...

Most folks, leave the root hints alone and just add forwarders. This way you
put the forwarding responsibility on your ISP who will probably keep a more
current listing of root servers then you would. (I'm a lazy admin) :)

Hi, Mike...
As I said before, with the configuration that you suggest, only
INTRANET works. I can´t resolve INTERNET names... did I miss
something?!

Thanks at all

Hi, Brian...
we already try this way, but if the INTERNET DNS is the first on
FORWARDER, then internet works fine.
When the INTRANET DNS is the first, guess what? Only INTRANET works...
I already read the M$ docs, made everything like them, but I can only
make one work, not both...

Thanks at all...

Check the intranet DNS server to see if it can resolve Internet names. Also check it's zones to make sure it doesn't include a zone calles "." root.

Thank you,
