Formulae does not re-calculate

Hi Guys,

My Excel does not recalculate the functions after the reference values are
changed.

I've tried

Tools|Options|calculation tab
Make sure calculation is set for automatic

Trouble is that when I re-open file, it goes back to Manual. Or, when I open
a brand new file, it also goes to manual.

How can I set the option to permanently Automatic for all existing and newly
created files?

After making sure that the calculation option is set to automatic, you
should save the file. Note also that if you open a workbook which has
the option set to manual, then any other files which are opened in
that instance of Excel will also pick up this option, so you should
close Excel down and then re-open it between files to avoid this
happening.

Hope this helps.

Pete,

Sorry for late response, I trield Tools|Options|Calculate and it works.
However, after I save the file with calculate option checked, it opens again
with the calculate option unchecked. It happens permanently to my computer.

Is there any way to permanently set my computer to calculate option?

Excel picks up this setting from the first workbook you open in that session.

If the first workbook you open is set for manual calculation, then you'll see
this situation.

My guess (and it's just a guess) is the first workbook you open is your
personal.xls workbook (and it's probably hidden) and it's set to manual
calculation.

So open excel (and personal.xls)
unhide personal.xls (window|unhide in xl2003 menu system)
change calculation to automatic
hide personal.xls
Close excel and save your changes to personal.xls.

And test it.

Dave,

It worked. Thanks !!!

Only thing is that, PERSONAL.XLS does not open up a workbook when I double
clik on it. It just shows up in my VBA editor environment, so I cannot make
the change you mentioned and re-save PERSONAL.XLS. Once I delete
PERSONAL.XLS, calculate option is unchecked when I open new documents.

You can unhide Personal.xls from Window>Unhide.

Make the changes, re-hide and re-save when you close Excel.
