Ready.....Calculate #2

Followup to the "Ready Calculate" question. I am opening four workbooks. It is only when I open the fourth workbook that the "Calculate" appears. The 'Calculation' tab under Options shows Automatic, not Manual. What have I done to cause it to require Manual?

Hi
maybe this is a large workbook containing many formulas. In this case
Excel switches to manual calculation mode

Yes, it is. Is there any way to override Excel switching to manual
(besides reducing the number of formulas)?

I've never seen excel switch from automatic to manual calculation without
something telling it to. (Either a macro, the first open workbook, or through
the user interface.)

But I have seen excel get confused enough to just show calculate in the
statusbar, though.
