formula too long error

While calculating a formula that references data from more than 12 external
sources, a message box appears that reads, "Formula too long." I cannot find
any reference material for this message. Can anyone provide information?

Yes,

Use a "defined name" to replace a chunk of your formula. And then use that
name in the original formula.
