Hi,

Although I have just posted I thought this might be worth a separate
posting.

Over the last few months I have learnt some of the basic formulas used and
at times have had the idea of combining different formulas together as I
have seen in books and indeed in this forum.

My question is is there a set of rules which would help me to construct them
(which order and use of special characters )(,; etc)

For example yesterday I had the idea of combining VLOOKUP with an OFFSET
both of which I can workout separately but wouldn't have a clue where to
start if I wanted to use them together.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

DonH

Hi Don

What I often do if building a complicated formula, is to do it in stages
in differing cells where perhaps cell C2 was giving the result of an
Offset formula.
The cell D2 would contain my Vlookup formula, using C2 as the lookup
reference.

Once satisfied that all was working as required, I would highlight the
formula from C2 in the formula bar(excluding the = sign, and do Ctrl+C
to Copy then press Esc.
Then highlight the formula in D2 in the formula bar, highlighting the
reference to C2 in particular, and type Ctrl+V to Paste. and then press
Enter.

The resulting formula would be a combination of Offset and Vlookup, and
I can then delete C2.

Roger,

Many thanks! Sounds like very good advice (wish I had thought of it lol) I
shall give it a go.

Thanks again
