formula does not display the resulting value in the cell

I have a correct formula, but instead of getting the result displayed, I get
the formula.
 
Change the format in the cell with the formula to either general or a
number, press F2 and enter
 
Also check Tools>Options>View and make sure that the Formulas box is
unchecked.
