Formula between two worksheets

I'm trying to enter a formula between 2 worksheets to calculate quartlery
variance. Data in worksheet 1 is for previous year, data in #2 is for current
year. Can anyone help?

You should see something like this for a basic formula

=Sheet2!A1-Sheet3!A1

Did I miss something?
