When creating a form in Word 2007 is there a way to get it to hold pre-set
formatting?

I format the field and when it is filled in it goes back to the default.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are trying to reset the form, unprotect it, select all (Ctrl+A) and
press F9 to update. Then protect it again.

That doesn't work. I posted this same question a few days ago. I'm starting
to think this may be a glitch in the new Word 2007 program. I simply can not
get my forms to save the formatting that I set. It always changes back to
default. Does anyone else have any suggestions?

Thanks for your help!

It seems as if I misunderstood your initial question. You are dealing with
the formatting of fields, not their content, obviously.

What kind of forms are you using? Content controls (new in Word 2007) or the
legacy form fields (available also in older versions)?

What happens if you unprotect the document, format the fields, and then
re-protect? You can apply formatting directly to the fields, but it will be
easier to use paragraph or character styles.

I've tried doing it both ways with no luck.

I just tested and I see the same thing. A default font (Cambria) seems to be
used for text in forms. However, you can change other settings, such as font
size and color.

Unprotecting the document, selecting and resetting the character formatting
to style (Ctrl+SpaceBar) seems to fix the issue, but only temporarily.

It certainly looks like a bug.

I'm so glad you see it too!! So since it appears this is a bug, what is the
next step? How do I let "the powers that be" know about this? Or do we all
have to just wait?

Okay... Wait a minute, I think I may have figured it out!!

When you unprotect the document, and the "Restrict Formatting and Editing"
side window pops up; at the very top there is a box that is checked that says
"Limit formatting to a selection of styles". When I uncheck that box it seems
to correct the problem. At least for now it has. If that changes and it goes
back to changing the fonts again, I'll let you know.

Thank you so much for your help Stefan!

FWIW, I didn't have the "Limit formatting to a selection of styles" option
checked when I did my testing, so I don't think that is it...

Hmmmmm.... Well, that is a bit strange then. It may well be some sort of
glitch, but for the time being unchecking that box seemed to correct the
issue I was having. I wonder if you tried checking the box if it would work
for you then?

Let's take a step back here...

Obviously, the "Limit formatting..." option is *supposed* to work the way it
did for you: it should only allow a specific selection of styles to be used.
And, logically, clearing the option should fix the issue for you (which it
apparently did).

In fact, the strange behavior is at my end. :-) :-(

What happens if you check the option, carefully specify which styles should
be used, then apply those styles to form fields, and protect the document?
Does it work as expected, that is, without changing the format of the text?
