when I open a Word document I see {FORMCHECKBOX} instead of the checkbox.
Others opening the Word document see the document the way it is supposed to
be. I assume there is some sort of setting in my Word program that's messed
up

Press Alt+F9 to switch between field codes (what you see) and field results
(what you want).

But note that you will not be able to do this while you have a protected
form open. Instead, close the form, toggle fields, then reopen the form.

How can I be one of the others who when opening the Word document see it the
way it is supposed to be? I don't want to have to press Alt-F9. Under
Tools/Options/View/Show, I have Field Codes unchecked, and it still shows
them sometimes when I open a document.

Thanks.

Add a line

ActiveWindow.View.ShowFieldCodes = False

to both an autoopen and an autonew macro in the normal template and Word
will always open with the field results shown - regardless of what was saved
with the document
