Formatting

I need to format my hard drive. and give my puetr a fresh
start. I think I got virus on it. system often locks up
cannot delete certain files.
how do I format drive c in xp?
tried safe mode in command promp but it said info in
osuninst.exe is corupted. also tried unistalling os
through Add/remove program in safe mode which did not
even show up in choices. plz help

You can't format the system partition while the OS is running! That's
like trying to replace your car engine, while the engine is still
running, and complaining that the car keeps dying while you are trying
to do it.

The XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools you need. Set your
BIOS to boot from CD, put the XP CD in the drive and reboot - then
follow on-screen instructions.
