Formatting Signatures in Outlook 2003

I created a signature file in Outlook 2003 using Word as the editor. I am
using single line spacing and have the text align left . When I create a new
message in Outlook the signature has a line spacing of 1.5 and the text is
justified. How do I get the signature to appear correctly?

there may be a style turned on, highlight everything and go Format/Style/Normal
to correct spacing, replace <enter> with <shift><enter>

This did not work. If fact the problem appears to be that there is no style
turned on. My normal template is set up for a line spacing of 1.5 and
justified text. When I editted the signature in Word I set the line spacing
to 1 and left align the text. When I save the signature these settings are
not being saved. So when I go and compose a new email message, Outlook is
using the settings in my normal template to format the signature.
