Formatting problem

Hi.
I have a very annoying problem with word2003. Maybe someone can help:
When I want to format some selection or even a whole line, I select it and when I select Bold/Underline/Italic/Center/Bulleting/anything else, word applies it to the whole document! I have to undo what word does automatically. It's very annoying, and I hope someone have a good advise for me. I can't work like that.

You style (probably normal style) is set to automatically
update. See:
