I just installed a new hard drive and am trying to install xp from a cd.
However when turning on the computer all I get is no operating sysytem found.
Do I need to do something to get it to see the cd drive? The cd is a
registered product. the computer is a H-P pavillion. Thanks in advance B.

Hi there,

The most likely cause of this is that you have not enabled your PC to boot
from CD in the BIOS. (Or you could be using an old system that does not
support it)

When you first boot key pressing the button that it says to enter setup
(Usually F2 or Del) Look at your boot order, you need to make sure that it
looks for your CD-ROM drive BEFORE your HDD.

When you reboot you will get a prompt saying "Press any key to boot from
CD"... your off!!!! I hope this helps.

Hi coonrod70,

You'll need to change the boot device order in the BIOS Setup to try booting
from CDROM as first boot device. When you start or restart your computer, at
the blue HP Logo screen press the F1 key to enter the Setup menu. Once you
have accessed the Setup menu, tab over to and select the Boot tab which will
then display the order of boot devices......change the first device to CDROM
then Save Changes and Exit. The computer will automatically restart once you
have exited the Setup menu.

Regards,

You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
