Formatting Issues

marc

Using: Excel 2000.

When I view a document the cells are formatted with the dashed (-) square so
that the cell outline does not show when it is printed.

But when I print the document a hard coated square appears around each cell.
This occurs in empty cells and populated cells.

I tried: Tools-Cells-Border: Does not work
The cell format on the toolbar with different options does not
work.

Anyone have any clues?

Unclear what "dashed - square" means. Please elaborate
What version of Excel
Are you clear on the difference between "borders" and "gridlines"

A guess: open File | Print SetUp and uncheck the 'Print Grindlines' box

Hi,

There is no such command as Tools, Cells, Borders -

either you have border or gridlines

1. You don't want to have custom colors for borders it doesn't work that
well, so choose Tools, Options, View tab, and under Gridlines set Gridline
color to Automatic.
2. For printing purposes it doesn't matter what your Gridlines check box is
(on the same window as above) - it can be checked or not.
a. If it is checked then you will control the display at printout
b. If it is not displayed you can display it at printout
3. Under File, Page Setup, Sheets tab, uncheck Gridlines if you don't want
them to print. (Even if they are not displayed in the spreadsheet, they will
print if you check the Gridlines box here.)
