Formatting Issues: Word Table to Excel

Any reason why simple unformatted numbers copied from a Word table into Excel
are unformattable? Despite what I've done, I cannot format the cells into
currency.

Maybe the Word table is corrupted?

try:
- select an empty cell
- copy this cell
- select your imported numbers
- goto 'Edit - Paste Special' and choose 'Add'

Now try again

That didn't work, but I found a work around. Copied the Word file to .txt
file, then opened it in Excel. Now I can apply formatting. Would be a bear
if it was a huge Word table though...

Someone else created the Word file. It did have formulas in it. Perhaps
that created some problem. This is the first time I've had this issue, so
I'm going with the original thought of "flakey Word table."

Long as I have a work around, I'm happy.

The cells could have other characters in them besides digits.
