I need to do some very unusual formatting and want to know if there is a
way to do this in Word (Office 2003 version).

The document is an "Intel Hex File", it's a pure ASCII text document,
totally unformatted.

Every line is the same length, there are no spaces or delimiters of any
kind (e.g., converting the text to a table in which each character is a
separate cell does not look like an option).

I need to remove columns of characters. For example, I need to remove
the 2nd, 3rd and last 4 characters of every line.

In very old DOS versions of word, there was a way to drag the mouse to
select rectangular areas of text which could then be deleted.

Is there a way to do something like this in the current version of Word?

Barry,
Just a thought: have you tried ALT+dragging which allows you to select
vertically.

I want all of my "watched messages" to always appear on top. Where do I set
that?

Thank you.

Hi HT

Click the spectacles in the heading bar at the top of the list of messages.

You've posted to a Word newsgroup. If you have follow-up questions, I
suggest you post to one of the Outlook Express newsgroups. Let them know
what version you're using as well as what you're trying to do.

Hope this helps.
