formatting in microsoft word 2003

I don't know what I clicked on, but now all documents in word have some kind
of wierd formatting. There are dots between words, paragraph symbols all
over and even a symbol that looks like this -->

I'm sure there is a simple fix for this but I have no idea. Please help!
 
This is a newsgroup devoted to Microsoft Access, not Word. There are
Word-related newsgroups and you should post your questions there.

Nevertheless, there is a button on your toolbar that looks like a paragraphs
symbol. You clicked that. it shows the spaces and paragraphs. Just click
it again.
