formatting Hard drive

G

Guest

I have adopted a Dell computer from my wife's office. It has Windows 2000
Prof. I have no 2000 software.

I desire to format the hard drive and then load my 95, then 98 upgrade, then
XP Home upgrade.

I am having difficulty just getting the hard drive formatted. My 95 boot
desk is from an older computer as well. Any thoughts.
So far I have booted the machine up with the boot disk. It asks me if I
want to load 95 after formatting the hard drive. I select that. Then I get a
command error.

Thanks,

To do a clean install boot the Windows XP install CD-Rom. When you get to
the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found. After you
delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again restart the pc booting
the CD-Rom to avoid unexpected drive letter assignments with your new
install.

Be sure to apply SP2 or at least these to your new install before connecting
to any network.

During Windows XP setup, at some point, will want to confirm the previous
operating system for the upgrade; at that point you'll simply insert the
qualified product install CD for it to verify. Then the install will
proceed.

Check the pc, mb or hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest bios and
or Windows XP drivers for your devices.
