I would like to require the user to enter the date in a particular format in
a protected cell in a table on a form. Please help.

Does the table cell contain a text form field? If so, you can specify the
desired date format for the field, in the Text Form Field Options dialog
box. To display the dialog box, unprotect the document and then double-click
the field.

Yes, it contains a text form field and the desired date format has been
specified, but when I protect the document and enter a date format different
than the one specified for that field, it does not indicate to the user that
they need to correct the format. Is there any way to make the user enter it
correctly on the form by telling them the date they entered is not in the
correct format?

When the user *tabs* out of the field, Word checks that the format is
correct. If Word recognizes the date, the chosen format will be applied; if
Word doesn't recognize the entered date, an error message should display.
