Formatting Cells to Show Numbers as Degrees?

Can I format a cell or an entire coulmn for that matter
to show a number format in degrees? We are setting up a
spreadsheet that must be automatically updated as new
info is entered and some of the information must be shown
in degrees. Is there a symbol for this or a way this can
be customized? I have access to Excel 97 and Excel 2000.
Thanks

to do this you have to first determine how you want it to look. I'm going to use the metric system for the exampl

Supposing you want it to say. 30 °C and you have the number 30 in the column

1. highlight the entire colum
2. right click and select format cell
3. under the Number tab select "Custom
4. in the text box on the right type 0 and a space (or if you have decimals you can type 0.00 and a space
5. Hold the Alt key and type 0176 on the number pad (only) (don't use the top row numbers) and release the alt key, you should see the degree superscipt like this 0 °
6. finally click ok and viola!!

Yes, a whole bunch!! To experiment, go to
menu Insert/Symbol... select a font like Arial.
In the "character code" box at the bottom
type in 176 (no leading 0)- you'll see the
degree symbol. Play with using various
symbols in your fomatting..
