windows will not allow me to format c. says something
about volume being in use by another process and it won't
allow me to "dismount" that other process...whatever that
means :) HELP!!

Sounds like you're trying to format at the command prompt
or via Disk management. Naturally if you're trying to
format the drive you're using you can't if you see what I
mean.

c: is the system disk for 99% of folk - question I have is
what are you hoping to acheive by formatting c: that may
help the thread to develop.

Hi

You can't format from within Windows. Why do you need format? The
following article will show you how to 'Clean' install XP:

"Clean Install Windows XP"

If you wanted to create a total vacuum within a space, would you do it from
within the space, thereby depriving yourself of air to breath before the
task was fully complete, or would you do it from outside of the space such
that you did not suffer lack of air during the process.. setting up a
command for an operating system to destroy itself will remove the mechanism
by which the task can be completed.. fortunately, Windows recognizes this
and prevents what it deems 'accidental' erasure from happening..

that works too.. :).. I had to remove a treehouse way back when.. wielded
the axe around until there was just one piece left.. one BIG hit later, the
piece, and the idiot standing on it, fell to the ground.. :)) I was back on
my feet within minutes, and I never told a soul about it.. :)))
