1. Reboot the machine.
2. Press the key that gets you into your BIOS. It is often
the Delete key. If you do not know what it is, read the
boot messages. If you still don't know, consult your
motherboard manual.
3. Set your CD/DVD drive as your primary boot device.
4. Boot the machine with your WinXP CD.
5. When given the choice, allow the hard disk to be formatted.

You will, of course, lose all information that is currently stored
on the disk.

In windows explorer one can't format the hd because its in use.To format &
reinstall xp,simply install xp cd,boot to cd,select install xp,new
copy,delete the
partition, create one, then xp formats and installs auto....

First I would go to Malke's page and follow the instructions for
removing malware and reinstalling XP.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html

a) Back up _all_ your personal data.
b) Make sure you have your XP cd's, drivers etc.
c) Write zeros to the drive due to malware.
d) Reinstall XP

You must also delete\recreate the partition in order to install onto the
same drive as the boot drive. The installation walks you thru it well but
that step is easy to skip because it isn't intuitively necessary.

If you don't want the partition, boot the XP CD as advised in another
message.

If you do want it, get Partition Magic. It handles drives and
multi-boots very well.
