formatting a hard drive

My daughter is having some computer problems and it
appears that in order to make it run better she will need
to get rid of all of the junk and garbage she has
accumulated. She is running Windows XP and has saved all
of her important work. Can someone suggest the method
used in formatting a hard drive so that I can reload her
Windows XP disk
 
Boot with the XP CD-ROM. Select to wipe the partition. Repartition and
reformat.

You will now start with a fresh disk for install.
