Formating USB drive

Steve

I have a Hard Drive type MP3 player which has died.

Sometimes when connecting it to the PC (via USB cable) windows will report
that the USB Device is not recognised, or it will say it has malfunctioned
and then drop the device from My Computer. Other times it will eventually
load and show as Drive G:

On the occasions when it will load a right click on the drive name and
selecting properties will show that it has 0 bytes.

Obviously the drive is corrupt and if it was standard drive I would be using
a utility to try and format it. However as it is connected by USB the only
option is to use the Format command on the right context menu.
Unfortunately this doesn't work.

Are there any utilities for formatting drives connected via USB? Or any
other ideas anyone?

Or do I have to accept it's junk?

TIA

Steve

If you can't do it in windows you could try downloading one of the usb
enabled dos boot discs that are around the net. I don't have any sites to
tell you but I was looking for dos drivers for a usb drive and found a few
dos usb boot discs. If no one has any better ideas do a search on google for
dos usb boot discs and see what you find.
