formating hard drive

anyone know how to format the hard drive with xp? i cant
get to dos without being in windows. and when i do it
only on a: and will not switch to C: Please help!!!! -

control panel, admin tools,computer management, disk management. then
select the drive you want to format and either right click - format

Boot to the XP installation CD.

This will not work. Boot from the XP CD, it has all the tools you need to
format.
