-Old machine fried by power surge - gone to geat trash dump in the sky.
-Bought new computer.

Is this correct?
At what point do I format? Format C:\sys

F8 at Boot
Boot from XP CD
Install from XP CD
Will be prompted to provide info over Internet (XP 2 yrs old)

Hi,

Simply boot from the XP CD and follow the setup
instructions. You will be asked to pick a partition to
install XP on (or create one if you don't have any) and
the setup routine will then ask you how you want it
formatted (NTFS, FAT32 ...). I would chose NTFS as it is
the most flexible and secure.

Regards,

Tim

Boot the XP CD - take Setup, When it gets to confirming where the
system should be put, you can either accept whatever it suggests, or can
hit ESC to create a partition of the size you choose, select it and
carry on - it will be formatted at the next stage
