format phone number

I would like to know if it is possible to have a phone
number automatically formatted (hyphens inserted)
 
Under what circumstances do you want this to occur? You can do it with forms
and with mail merge, you could probably do it using a fill-in or ask field
or even a userform, but not by simply typing the number at the keyboard -
unless of course it was just your phone number you wanted to insert, when
you would use autotext or autocorrect.
