Format Painter between 2 documents

I have two documents open at the same time and I am trying to use format
painter to copy formatting from one document to the other. Is this possible?

The paintbrush always disappears when I click on the second document.

You can use copy & paste formatting to accomplish what you want.

Ctrl-Shift-C and Ctrl-Shift-V.
