Format Painter is pasting text

I am working in Word 2007. When I use the format painter tool to apply
formatting changes it is pasting text. I don't know where this text is coming
from. Could it be hidden text that appears? or maybe something from the
clipboard? Any ideas. My process is as follows:
1. Place cursor in the word or highlight the phrase of the format I want to
copy
2. Double click format painter
3. Click in word or highlight section where I want to apply these format
changes.
4. I am able to click on about 5 or 6 words or sections but then
5. A random sentence appears that doesn't seem to be in the document.

Hi Whitney,
if you want to find out whether it is hidden text or not, as the phrase
appears undo the action of pasting format and show the hidden characters
clicking the pi button [ ¶ ]
It it is hidden text, it'll appear with a dotted underline.
