Format MicroSD

I have a 1 GB ScanDisk Micro SD that is used in a Garmin outdoor mapping
device (GPSmap76CSx). I formatted the SD with My Computer / Format / FAT
(instructed to chose this option). All went OK. I then downloaded a 954 MB
file -- the message from the MapSource software said 100% complete, but it
did not give the final message of "download successfully completed". The SD
was not closed out and it will not operate in the GPS, nor can it be read
in either Windows Explorer or My Computer / Format.

I have worked with Garmin for over an hour. The gave me a download that
will work (?) with SD cards 512 MB and greater. So it should work if I can
get the 1 GB SD card re-formatted or cleared or ???.

Is there a was to do this in Windows? Is there some third party utility
that would work? or a DOS based utility or ???

Any guidance appreciated, -- I hate to trash a $70 SD card -- and it might
not work if I try it again --(FYI I also have a 128 MB SD card that works
OK -- download to it, use it, download new maps etc - but I need larger map
data capacity).

If there is another News Group site that would be more focused on this
area -- also please let me know.

Thanks, Dick

Have tried this -- put the Micro card in the card reader, open My Computer,
chose Format, chose FAT -- system takes about two minutes to get this far
after opening My Computer. -- Format appears to start -- then message "
Windows unable to complete the format." Same result with "Quick Format" and
with FAT 32.

If I can find a software utility that will format the SD card -- I think my
problem is solved.

Thanks, Dick
