my computer is bogged down from frequent use by my
children. I would like to restore the computer to the
state it was in on day one. the computer is almost one
year old. I tried system restore but it will not restore
from any date that I have entered. so I would like to
format the whole disk?
Any help please.thanks

Hi George,

Seems a bit drastic to me, but, all you need to do is boot the WinXP CD and
start a new installation, you can reformat as part of it. This will cause
the loss of all data on the drive being formatted, so copy off anything you
want to keep first. If you have encrypted files, make sure you also export
the encryption certificate or you will not be able to regain access to them.

Personally, I'd just clean up the system. Far less aggravating than
recustomizing an installation and reinstalling all the updates.

George, if you have an XP disk, you should be able to do this using the disk
you have. Be sure to back up your important files before attempting to
reformat, or you will lose them.

Did your computer come with a restore disk or an xp disk? If xp go into bios
and make cd 1st boot option and hd 2nd boot option. Put xp cd in and follow
instructions. You maybe able to do this with a restore cd also.
